The Hilleberg Niak is a lightweight, three‑season dome tent for solo users or close‑quarter pairs who want maximum comfort at very low weight in warm and mixed conditions around the world.
Part of
Hilleberg's Yellow Label range, these tents are primarily designed to be lightweight and intended for use in warmer climates and in snow-free conditions.
Inside Comfort
The Niak offers generous internal space for its weight, making it a true comfort‑first option for one person and their gear. It can accommodate two people when needed, though its layout is especially well suited to a parent and child or a solo camper travelling with a dog. A 100 cm inner height allows comfortable sitting, while the full mesh inner door keeps the living space airy and pleasant in warmer weather.
Outside PerformanceBuilt as a three‑season tent, the Niak uses Hilleberg’s lightest Kerlon 1000 outer fabric, paired with 9 mm poles for a strong but weight‑efficient structure. Catenary shaping along the lower edges of the fly helps maintain airflow while keeping the outer tent properly tensioned for reliable rain protection. The single vestibule can be rolled completely away to maximise ventilation through the mesh inner during hot or humid conditions.
Setup
The Niak uses a simple two‑pole, self‑supporting dome design inspired by Hilleberg’s Unna, allowing quick and intuitive pitching. Only the vestibule needs to be pegged out, making it practical on hard ground or uneven pitches. The inner and outer tents are linked but can be separated, and they pitch together to keep the inner dry during setup.
Optional Additions - Available SeparatelyFor added protection, an additional tough
Footprint can be purchased to help protect the tent’s floor from abrasion and to keep ground moisture from rising in the vestibule.

Understanding the Hilleberg Range
Hilleberg are widely regarded as one of the world's leading tent manufacturers, trusted by everyone from first-time backpackers to experienced mountaineers, expedition teams and outdoor professionals. Designed and developed in Sweden, Hilleberg tents have been used on every continent and have earned a reputation for exceptional reliability, innovative Kerlon fabrics and meticulous attention to detail.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Hilleberg is that the most expensive or strongest tent is automatically the best choice. In reality, every Hilleberg tent is designed for a specific purpose, balancing weight, strength, ventilation and living space to suit different environments and styles of adventure.
For example, while a Black Label tent offers outstanding strength for demanding conditions, it may not be the ideal choice for a lightweight summer trek or an extended trip in warmer climates. Likewise, a lightweight Yellow Label tent is perfect for many adventures but isn't designed for severe winter conditions. Choosing the right Hilleberg is about finding the tent that best matches where you'll go, the weather you'll encounter and how you like to travel.
That's why understanding Hilleberg's colour label system is so important.
Designed for snow-free conditions and warmer climates, Yellow Label tents are Hilleberg's lightest range. They prioritise low weight and excellent ventilation, making them ideal for summer backpacking, bikepacking, long-distance trails and lightweight trekking.
Red Label tents are Hilleberg's versatile all-season range, offering an excellent balance of strength, weight and comfort. For many people, they provide the ideal combination of durability and packability for year-round trekking in a wide variety of conditions.
Black Label tents are Hilleberg's strongest and most robust designs, built for demanding environments, prolonged use and severe weather. They prioritise maximum strength and durability where reliability is critical.
If you're unsure which Hilleberg is right for you, our Hilleberg specialists can help. Rather than recommending the most expensive model, we'll ask about the trips you have planned, the conditions you'll encounter and the features that matter most, helping you choose the tent that's best suited to your adventures.
