Pre-Order

With Pre-Order, you can purchase the latest items added to our store in advance of them arriving with us.

Your Pre-Order is prioritised (at no additional charge); meaning that as soon as the product arrives with us, we can wrap it straight back up; ready for collection via Click & Collect or despatch to you — it often never even hits the stock room shelves!

Easy 90 Day Returns

For specific instructions then download a returns form, enclose with your return and send the items to us in a new and unused resalable condition, securely packaged with all product packaging, labels and tags included within 90 days of receipt.

No printer? No problem, simply enclose a note with your name / postcode and order number and what action you require with the returned items. You can also return online purchases to our stores for refund / exchange too!

Warranty / Service

If you think your product is possibly faulty

- To resolve your query efficiently we use a claim form and case / ticket system, complete the form, add all the details required, and we'll get straight on to sorting it out.
- Please include as much information as possible to help us fully understand the issue.
- You'll need your order number, and uploading some pictures with the form is a great idea and usually required for us to proceed.
- You will get an email receipt with your ticket reference.
- We deal with warranty or faulty product queries via email and your ticket, this keeps all details together and helps get to a resolution quicker.
- If after receipt of your claim form the product needs to be returned to us, we will provide a pre-paid return label or arrange collection for larger / heavier items, customer services will let you know how to proceed.
- Please don't send a possible faulty or warranty product back without completing the claim form first, as we are unable to refund your postage if you do.
- Note, we can only deal with the original purchaser of the product

Timescale to deal with your claim - for technical faults or repairs we use the services of the original manufacturer or nominated agent for inspection, testing and high quality guaranteed repairs. Please allow a reasonable timescale for completion of this process, customer services can advise further as this does vary between products.

FAQ's

I think a product I've bought from you is faulty, what should I do?

Firstly, apologies you are having to contact us in these circumstances, in the first instance please complete our warranty service form or pop to the store you bought the product from, we will be pleased to help.

Important– For warranty claims, please complete the warranty form and await a reply from customer services before sending a faulty item back. We are unable to refund your return postage costs unless you have done so.

If customer services advise your product is possibly faulty and requires further inspection, then we will send you a pre-paid return label – simply attach to the parcel and drop into your local Yodel shop. For larger heavier orders like tents & camping furniture etc we can arrange for courier collection if required. You have a legal right to reject faulty goods within 30 days of receipt and get a refund, including postage back to us. Please start the process off by completing our warranty service form, and we will get in touch.

How can I return an order to you?

You can return a new and unused item for a refund within 90 days, return options can be found at the top of this page.

Can I return an order to a store?

Yes, of course, if more convenient. Stores can process a refund or exchange, please bring your new / unused goods and a copy of your order email (on your phone is ok)

I don't have a printer, what should I include in the return parcel?

Please include the information requested on the returns form. If we have any issues finding your order, we will give you a call or email, so please ensure these are included.

How do I exchange an item for a different size?

The easiest method is to place a new order for the correct size and simply send the incorrect ones back for a refund. We can process an exchange, but can't reserve stock awaiting the return. To do this, return your order to us with the returns form, tick the box for exchange and include a detailed description of the size and colour you wish to exchange this for.

Once received, we will check the stock of your requested item and despatch the exchanged item to you.

You will receive an email with your tracking information after despatch.

Full Terms & Conditions

We don't offer free returns for unwanted or unsuitable orders back to us, you're welcome to drop an order back into one of our stores.

All goods must be in a new and unused condition. All product packaging, labels and tags must be included. For unwanted items, the order will be refunded, excluding any delivery charges. Please don't write or stick returns labels to the product packaging itself but use an outer bag or box.

Tents, awnings, canopies & extensions - Please note that once a tent, awning, canopy or extension has been pitched outside we are unable to accept it back under the 90-day return policy as it not in a new and unused condition. Please check tent dimensions, floor plans and details carefully or if you are unsure please visit one of our stores or shows to view before purchase.

Footwear - Please note, in the case of footwear returns, please use outer packaging to send the product back. Any shoe boxes defaced by parcel tape, stamps, writing or our returns address etc on will not be accepted and will be returned to you.

Climbing Equipment - Safety equipment (climbing gear such as, but not restricted to, harnesses, helmets, ropes, hardware & slings) must be returned in brand new and unused condition as per our returns' policy. All packaging including tags and instruction manuals must be present, otherwise we will not be able to accept your return. This is for your own safety and the safety of others.

Underwear - For hygiene reasons we are unable to offer a refund or exchange on briefs, boxers and other underwear returned to us as we are unable to resell these to other customers. Please check the size-chart listed on the product page carefully before ordering underwear, if you require any more detailed sizing assistance then please get in touch and will be happy to measure etc as you require.

Electronics/ data products - returns policy excludes CD/DVD disks, memory cards & data products or any electronic products such as GPS or watches once registered or activated.

Faulty or warranty returns - please go to the Warranty / Service page and complete the claim form is required.

Consumer Contracts Regulation - UK Only (Formerly known as Distance Selling Regulations)

You have a right to cancel your order within a fourteen working day cooling off period following the day after the date of delivery for any unused item purchased through the website under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. This does not apply to any perishable goods, unsealed software or item personalised or made to your specification.

To cancel your order using the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you must e-mail or write to us with your details and order number and state that you are cancelling your order and claiming your rights under these regulations. You must take reasonable care of the items, retain all original packaging, and must not use them. All goods are returned at your own expense, unless the item is deemed faulty or incorrect.

You will receive a refund within fourteen days of your notice to cancel. We advise customers to return a product with the original packaging to ensure that the product is not damaged on its return journey.

Returning an order for refund under our 90 return policy without contacting first as set out above does not mean you have claimed your rights under these regulations.

The Altberg Men's Tethera is a classic 3 season hill walking boot, suitable for the Lakeland Fells, and the Scottish Hills. The upper design is 'Alpine Style', which incorporates a seamless bellows tongue, in the one-piece leather upper, and the water repellency is backed up by a Sympatex waterproof lining, of bootee construction. The underfoot support and protection is provided by the midsole, level 3 season, which gives excellent flex and torsional resistance, suitable for rough terrain.

For many people who want only one boot with a wide range of uses the Tethera is their ‘boot of choice’. The Tethera men's boot is timeless, a classic all leather hill and mountain boot.

    What can I say in addition that you have not already read in so many reviews about this mighty boot? I take my boots and shoes extremely seriously (maybe it’s my namesake) and will buy the best that I can find for me. I don’t believe in false economies when it comes to shoes. I had for the past six years been very happy with an Italian brand of boot however can see myself with Altberg for the rest of my days. I have a wide foot and would typically choose a size 11 to 11.5. I purchased these boots 12.5 extra wide and they are perfect. Good enough for a 20 km hike through the hills straight out of the box but clearly are getting more comfortable as they go. I will follow the advice and only use the recommended waterproofing and polish because after all Altberg have invested considerable effort and time and money into researching what exactly is best for their leather and so for me that means no more than Nikwax. The cherry on the cake I think with these boots is that I have a surety they can be resold down the line. Also and if I am completely honest I like the idea that the materials and labour are all deployed and sourced within our great country. In summary an excellent boot perfect for me large hobbit feet that will stand the test of time but then, you did not need my review to confirm that for you as there are so many out there that say the same thing.

    Strong and well made. I attended one of Altberg retail fitting service outlets. I was recommended this extra wide boot and the guy who did the fitting service wore the same boots for walking. I paid extra to have bespoke insoles (footbed) made for me . These replaced the ones in the supplied boots. These made a big difference for me because I have a high foot arch. My walking so far has been in the dry so there have been no challenges like slippery slopes, mud and puddles. The boot is a firm fit and comfortable for my toes. The fitter told me the tongue and heel area have memory foam so eventually these areas mould to your feet. I walk twice a week, 5-6 miles in the Chiltern hills. The lowest lace latch around the ankle contains a grip so when you pull the laces tight in the first five latch pairs you can anchor the laces in the grip before lacing up the remaining latches around the ankle (very useful). The instructions stress how important it is to wax the leather, particularly around the stitching etc to keep the leather in good condition and ensure the boots last a long time. Hence I also obtained a tin of Leder Gris! Gave four stars only because I havent used them in the wet yet so cannot tell how they perform. The tongue, as you see in the diagram, is full width beyond the top of the boot so should be waterproof even if the boot is totally immersed in mud/water.

    Second pair of Tetheras from Taunton Leisure. Have purchased many different makes of boots over almost fifty years and none match their quality or durability. Higher purchase price than most but superior build quality and longevity mean they represent better value for money. My only frustration with Taunton Leisure is that payment by debit card is not available. I almost gave up after struggling with the on-line purchase process but persisted after a helpful employee forwarded a link.

    Excellent quality, this is my 2nd pair. I had my previous pair 9 years and resoled them once. Fantastic build quality, something that is not commonly found these days. Can be worn all year round, on multiple terrains. They are also compatible with flexible crampons for ‘light’ winter mountaineering. All in all, the best all round walking boots I’ve ever had.

    A really good boot the extra width and volume to the toecap has made such a difference also the roll to the front part of the last has assisted the movement with my bunion !

    These are the second pair of Altberg Tethera walking boots I have owned, and they are excellent. My previous pair lasted 4 years and were still in very good condition and comfortable, but I had to replace as the tread had worn down. Not bad as I walk regularly - doing almost 500km in total last year! Highly recommended. I would also recommend Taunton Leisure for their excellent service, and in normal times, a very good boot fitting service and knowledgeable staff.

    Absolutely A1 service from Taunton despite lockdown. Ordered a wide pair only to find bit too narrow for my wide feet. Ordered second pair in extra wide which fit well. Both pairs delivered inside a week using standard delivery and refund for first pair also received inside week of returning. Choose Altberg as the meindl I brought 2nd day into coast to coast last year when my original meindls sole came away, while they fitted fine straight out of box they leaked through eyelets from day 1. I like the Altberg single piece tongue, choice of widths, UK made and relatively light weight while feeling very robust/supportive. Plus the Gent who picked me up from Robin Hoods Bay and took me back to my car reckoned he wouldn’t buy anything else and as he was also Mountain Rescue that seemed a good enough recommendation to me! Time will tell but so far so good.

    THESE ARE THE FIRST PAIR OF WALKING BOOTS I HAVE EVER HAD. I ALWAYS MADE DO IN THE PAST. I HAD DOUBTS ABOUT THE FIT OF THE WIDE FITTING SO ORDERED A PAIR OF EXTRA WIDE TO COMPARE. THESE ARE PERFECT AND THERE WAS NO ISSUE ABOUT GETTING A REFUND ON THE WIDE PAIR.
