Ready to play

Fjällräven has always had a knack for creating functional, hardwearing, and sleek products. At the heart of this I think is their simplicity. Many items are packed with interesting features but are incredibly simple to use and feel great whether you’re wearing a garment or simply feeling their carefully selected choice of fabric. All of their products are beautifully finished and are designed to last a very long time. The new for this year, High Coast Fold Sack is no exception to Fjällräven’s range and certainly lives up to the reputation which the company has made for itself since its founding all the way back in 1960 when Åke Nordin made the very first Rucksack in Fjällräven’s line of great products.

Fjällräven’s High Coast family is a versatile everyday range that is made to fit perfectly into your daily schedule but also is hardy and practical enough for outdoor activities such as hiking and overnight camping in warmer months.

The pack makes a great daypack during a hike but is also perfect for everyday thanks to Fjällräven’s aesthetically pleasing design. It looks great!

Features

The pack itself looks great, available in both Rowan Red (like a burnt orange) or Dark grey within our range, the finish of the fully recycled, waterproof nylon fabric is matte and feels great between finger and thumb. The Pack is reinforced on the base with Fjällräven’s own Bergshell fabric which is used on their range of specialised mountaineering gear, it is a very tough and beautifully made fabric and is great to see on a bag of this price.  The folding aspect of the pack refers to the top closure which zips up and then folds downwards to fasten nicely to a strong nylon strap on the front, this is great as it means you can adjust the volume of the pack as needed. It also means that when packing the rucksack into a larger bag, it rolls up nicely to take up as little space as possible. The side pockets are a good fit for most standard water bottles but I’ve found them absolutely perfect for a 21oz standard mouth HydroFlask which also really makes the Rowan Red colourway pop, perhaps try the olive green HydroFlask to match the straps?

Along with these features, we also have detachable waist and chest straps which are great for up on the hill but not strictly necessary when heading through town, a very handy front-facing zip pocket for easy access, and a reflective logo and strips on the shoulder straps. Speaking of the shoulder straps, paired with the lightly padded back system, this is a very comfortable daypack and I have stayed very happy and comfortable through long hikes over the hills, this pack has seen most of Dartmoor by now. I have been using this bag in all different environments, but I find it to be particularly useful for commuting and everyday use. The integrated laptop sleeve and zip pocket with a key clip are great additions.

The interior of the pack also includes a laptop sleeve and another zippered pocket. The Chest and waist straps are removable.

In Test

I have now used this pack nearly every day for the last 3 months and I have to say it is very fine indeed, it looks cool and has certainly stood up to everyday use to and from work. I’m a keen walker and have taken the pack up to Dartmoor or along the South-West coast path loads lately. The pack has certainly held its own over long rough walks and wrestling with an incredibly happy and hyperactive husky. Being a keen cyclist, I have made great use of the reflective features and the chest strap whilst cycling at night and after being caught in a fair few downpours which we seem to have had constantly for the last few months, the pack has kept my things cosy and dry. Having the ability to adjust the volume of the bag makes for a very versatile pack which can be carrying a waterproof, lunch, towel, water, sunhat and sun cream, etc up a hill one day and carrying but a few small items such as my purse, notepad and tablet comfortably the next without any stress on me or the bag.

If you’re looking for a do it all daypack which is innovative, aesthetically pleasing, and versatile, you should consider this pack!
