You can really feel the difference when using Mountain Equipment. Today on the Taunton Leisure blog we’ll be going through many of these wonderful features across their clothing range to give you an idea of the immense expertise that goes into the design and build of almost every Mountain Equipment product. We’ll start with something new!

Mountain Equipment has its very own, exclusive, ultra-breathable Gore-Tex Pro membrane

Even in the Summer, odds are at some point that you are still going to need that waterproof and there is no doubt that Mountain Equipment’s pieces are some of the very best available. When teaming up with Gore-Tex last year, Mountain Equipment had its sights set on being able to harness one of three new varieties of Gore’s ultimate shell membrane. This new membrane is the most breathable variation of Gore-Tex Pro to date so is absolutely perfect for humid weather and hard activity, even during the hot months. This very special membrane is featured on ME’s flagship jackets including the highly-regarded, award winning Lhotse and Manaslu jackets. Definitely some of the industry’s best.

Gore-Tex Pro Most Breathable delivers up to 28% more breathability compared to previous versions whilst still keeping the supreme durability that Gore-Tex is known for. Made for activities that are known to work up quite a  sweat right when you don’t want it, the result of this new fabric means much better comfort in the most extreme conditions for the professional mountaineer and serious outdoor enthusiasts.

Mountain Equipment have a superb range of fits for active use

Within ME’s arsenal of great outdoor clothing you will find a range of different fits intended for different activities. Each superb in design, you can really tell when wearing these pieces that the designer certainly new what they we’re making and how it could perform desirably even during the toughest outdoor pursuits. ME’s Active fit is loose fitting whilst maintaining a slimkish profile which allows you to get a full range of movement easily whilst not getting snagged on the environment or other pieces of gear such as climbing pieces. If a product is made with an active fit, you can rest assured that this product is incredibly versatile and can take on many different activities with ease such as climbing, hillwalking, long distance trekking and more. Within this range of items, you can find some outstanding trousers and shorts such as the Approach range of legwear for both men and women. These trousers make a superb option in warmer months with a lightweight, breathable but incredibly tough Ascender fabric.

Featured on the Lhotse and Manaslu Gore-Tex Pro jackets, you have ME’s Alpine fit. These jackets have articulated and pre shaped sleeves, providing superb movement and durability throughout long term use. In many ways this fit is made to be a little trimmer than your standard fit as it is made for all-round mountaineering, skiing, walking and climbing use. Designed to map the contours of your body, the Alpine Fit cuts down on weight and bulk whilst affording complete unhindered movement. It features a new ‘reverse-camber’ centre front seam which naturally pulls the front half of the jacket around your body, minimising ‘bagging’ when leaning over. This has been coupled with a completely new shoulder block, re-balancing the distribution of fabric between the chest, shoulders and upper arms.

Mountain Equipment’s technical tee range repels odour

There is nothing quite like coming off the hill at the end of the day, setting up camp, and realising that you absolutely reek! It, of course, is nothing to be ashamed of, it is only natural that after putting in the hard work when out in the wild where you have no washing facilities you may get a bit smelly. With Mountain Equipment’s range of technical t-shirts such as the Headpoint tee with HeiQ Fresh and the Redline LS tees with Polygiene odour control, you don’t have to worry about your tops becoming smelly as very special technologies within the fabric are in place to neutralise the odour. This means you can wear your garments more, wash them less and save time and water.
Each of the technologies does this by cutting off the odour-causing bacteria at its source with anti-microbial elements built into the fabrics. Polygiene uses low concentrations of Siver Salt (sliver chloride) which has antimicrobial properties and is naturally present in water and soil, to safely eliminate the ability for bacteria and fungi to grow.

All Mountain Equipment’s products are made in fair working conditions worldwide

To call  this an innovation today, means that the clothing industry still has a long way to go in putting the well being of those who make the product at forefront of everything they do. Mountian Equipment however are at the fore front of this and was first awarded ‘Leader Status’ by Fair Wear Foundation in 2016 and has been awarded their highest accolade for performance every year since.
Together with Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), Mountain Equipment are working to achieve fair working conditions worldwide. Mountain Equipment has been a member of FWF since 2012 and has developed a close partnership with FWF, working together with them continuously over the past 7 years.
In order to reach Leader status, Mountain Equipment achieved a monitoring percentage of 90% in the FWF Brand Performance Check for 2018. In these annual reviews, FWF verifies member brands regarding their progress in implementing labour standards and improving working conditions. This marks a significant achievement by the business as only around 10% of FWF member brands manage to fulfil the requirements to be awarded Leader status.
”Mountain Equipment has been able to maintain its leader status over the past years. The company has in-depth knowledge about its production sites and effectively implements action plans wherever issues are found” – Anne van Lakerveld, Brand Liaison Fair Wear Foundation.
