Assistant manager Simon has been out all weather testing out Mountain Equipment Comici Pants! But are they up to the job?
Mountain Equipment has been making gear for the most inhospitable places on the planet for over fifty years. They say it’s not their job to tell people why they go to wild places, it’s their job to make the best gear for it. The Mountain Equipment Comici Pant is no exception!
The Comici Pant has been designed as a climbing, alpine, or fast and light pant that excels in warm weather. Recently I’ve had the opportunity to test them on a three-day hike across Dartmoor, in a variety of weather conditions.
The pant is made from Exolite 125 double weave soft shell fabric, with a fluorocarbon-free water-repellent treatment. They have a slim active fit, a good amount of stretch, tapered ankles with a drawcord, an integrated belt, two zipped pockets, and a mesh-lined thigh pocket that works as a vent.
During the three days I spent on Dartmoor, I put the Comici Pant through its paces. I found these trousers performed very well in different weather conditions and terrains. On the first day, we encountered a fair bit of rain. The fabric performed very well in the wet thanks to its water-repellent treatment. I didn’t feel the need to put waterproofs over my trousers until conditions became worse. Overall I liked the feel and comfort of the fabric, even in the inclement weather.
During the second day, the weather was more settled and warmer. At no point did my legs get too warm which is good for me as I would normally be in shorts.
The vent on the thigh pocket helped a lot with the breathability of the trousers. Over steep ground and climbing over some of the rocky tors, I found they had just the right amount of stretch for me. By the end of the third day we had covered around thirty miles, the trousers seemed quite fresh still. Certainly, fresher than the muscles in my legs.
The Comici Pant is a well-designed and versatile Pant from Mountain Equipment. It was a great piece of clothing for our multi-day hike and I will be definitely using it again when I’m next on Dartmoor. Where I think these trousers will really shine, is in a mountainous environment covering steep and rough ground. I for one can’t wait to try them out in this kind of terrain.
