On Monday, 11th August, after the shop doors closed, we welcomed over 20 runners to our very first Rab Run Club in Exeter. Joined by the Rab team and sponsored athlete Ben James, the group set off on a socially paced run through the city, with many participants taking the opportunity to test the latest Rab Veil products in real-world conditions. With all ticket sales being donated to Dartmoor Search & Rescue.
Hitting the Streets of Exeter
With the summer evening light on our side, the group set off at a relaxed, social pace – perfect for conversation, laughter, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Everyone was cheerful and happy to be there, chatting away, checking out the kit, and having a great time together. From our Exeter store, we made our way down to St David’s Station, before joining the River Exe for a scenic, flat stretch alongside the water and canal at the Exeter Quay.
The route then took us into the Exeter Riverside Valley Park, a beautiful green space alive with wildlife and stunning views, before looping back through the quay, passing many of the unique local stores built into the historic quayside. Along the way, runners put the Rab Veil range to the test – its lightweight, breathable design proving comfortable and reliable from the first stride to the last.
Refuelling with Coffee, Pastries, and Adventure
Upon returning to the store, the group gathered for a quick team photo before heading inside for well-earned refreshments. We were delighted to enjoy cold beers from Lukas Brewery alongside rich coffee and scrumptious pastries from Crankhouse Coffee-a perfect way to refuel and warm up.
Next, we had the privilege of hearing from Ben James, Rab-sponsored ultra-runner and mountaineer. Ben shared highlights from his extraordinary adventures, including the first winter traverse of Iceland and expeditions across polar regions. Following his talk, the floor was opened to a Q&A session where Ben answered questions from runners about his plans, training, and most memorable experiences.
What’s Next for Rab Run Club
This is just the beginning. Rab/Taunton Leisure already has plans in the works for more exciting events covering a range of disciplines, including climbing, hiking, and mountaineering. Many of these will be held in conjunction with Boulder Exe, bringing the local outdoor community together once again.
