Sam our content creator gives his view on the LifeStraw:

Recently, I embarked on an exhilarating trip to the stunning landscapes of Scotland, where I had the opportunity to put the LifeStraw Peak to the test. This compact and versatile water filtration device quickly became indispensable, ensuring safe and clean drinking water throughout my trip. With its sleek design, multiple filter options, and powerful filtering technology, the LifeStraw Peak proved to be a game-changer.

Enjoying the rare hot weather and amazing views of Glen Coe

One of the first things that caught my attention about the LifeStraw Peak was its sleek and compact design. It easily fits into any backpack or pocket without adding unnecessary weight (65g) or bulk. This minimalist approach is perfect for travellers, hikers and wild campers who value efficiency and convenience while on the go. The robust construction also gave me confidence that it could withstand being dropped or knocked around in my pack.

Compatible with the Hydrapak Stow Bottle 1L

The LifeStraw Peak offers multiple usage options, allowing you to adapt it to various situations. I primarily used it in conjunction with a soft bottle, filling the bottle with dirty water and then attaching it to the Straw, filtering it into a Nalgene. The other method of use is as a straw by directly drinking from natural water sources such as streams and rivers. The ease of sipping water through the straw provides a refreshing and convenient experience, especially during long hikes when hydration was crucial.

The Tech

The standout feature of the LifeStraw Peak is its advanced filtering technology. Utilising a hollow fibre membrane, effectively removes 99.999% of bacteria and parasites, making water sources safe to drink. It achieves this while also providing a great flow rate, other filters I have seen tend to be much slower and more tedious to use, the improved flow rate was very welcome. The advanced filtering technology of the LifeStraw gave me peace of mind, knowing that I could stay hydrated without worrying about waterborne illnesses. It’s worth noting that it doesn’t filter out viruses, to combat this make sure you source your water from a fast-flowing source, boil the water or use a Chlorine Diox tablet.

Simply squeeze the water through the filter and into a bottle

Impressively, the LifeStraw Peak can filter up to 4,000 litres (1,056 gallons) of water. This extraordinary lifespan is a testament to its durability and longevity, making it an excellent investment for frequent travellers and outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to this, the LifeStraw has no shelf life, perfect for those of us who struggle to find the time to get out. This means that you can use it and then leave it for a few months without the worry of it degrading or not working correctly the next time you’re out. Once the LifeStraw has had its time it will stop filtering water giving you peace of mind that you are not simply putting dirty water through an expired filter.

Final Thoughts

During my time in Scotland, I encountered breath-taking landscapes, remote locations and surprisingly very warm temperatures for Scotland. The LifeStraw Peak proved its worth time and time again, ensuring that I never had to compromise on hydration or worry about the quality of the water. It also meant that we could start the day with less water and therefore less weight and collect more if needed.

Thinking I now have to walk up that ridge…..

The LifeStraw Peak allowed me to drink from crystal-clear mountain streams and babbling brooks without hesitation. Its efficient filtration system consistently delivered clean and refreshing water, leaving no unpleasant taste.

In conclusion, the LifeStraw Peak is a remarkable water filter that exceeded my expectations. Its sleek and compact design, multiple filtering options, and powerful technology make it a must-have for outdoor enthusiasts and travellers alike. With the ability to clean 4,000 liters of water, it ensures a reliable and safe source of hydration in even the most challenging environments for a long time to come.

Whether you’re embarking on a backpacking trip, going on a hike, or exploring remote destinations, the LifeStraw Peak is your ultimate companion for a worry-free hydration experience.
