Staff Thoughts: Snow Peak Amenity Dome

Take a look at Caius from the Exeter Shop’s first impression of this fresh take on a dome tent all the way from Japan.

It is always super exciting when we get new tents into store! Sadly missing out on a lot of camping last year, 2021’s tent season is certainly set to be a great one and the new Amenity Dome from Japanese gear maker, Snow Peak may well be set to be the envy of many a campsite across the UK.
Snow Peak are certainly gaining a lot of attention lately for their spectacular outdoor designs, after over 60 years making great gear, their wonderfully simplistic but very effective products still wow us today.

Caius from the Exeter Store is no stranger to some good old camping and knows a lot about the stock we keep. After pitching and looking over the Amenity Dome he has this to say:

”The Amenity Dome is a perfect option for family camping if you’re looking to keep size and weight under control, it packs down small and is quick and easy to pitch. The Medium size will comfortably sleep a family of 4 and you can add a purpose made mat to the sleeping compartment, turning it into a luxury padded bedroom – no more cold spots in between sleeping mats! My favourite feature are the rear doors that allow you to open up the back of the bedroom, find a pitch with a view and enjoy the sunset or sunrise from your bed!

The amenity dome pitches easily with colour coded poles and a  semi-free standing design, this makes it really simple to get positioned nicely in a pitch. The 75 denier polyester flysheet feels really durable, I’d happily hunker down and wait out storm in this tent with plenty of room to recline and play cards. Additionally, the offset front hoop allows you to make the most use of the covered spaces during bad weather. The design includes three separate entrances which can be opened for ventilation, with the mesh inner doors closed to keep insects out. The front porch door can be held up with extra poles to create a covered seating area, ideal for cooking and enjoying the evenings. I think snowpeak have really excelled with this design, some simple but clever features make best use of the space and offer a great alternative to the larger and heavier family tents. Ideal for those with smaller cars or looking to keep their family camping set up lightweight and simple.”
