Outwell Tents: Innovative Family Camping

Take a look as we pitch up Outwell’s tents and break down their well earned, superb reputation as one of Europe’s best family camping brands

The Danish love luxurious camping! It’s something I was unaware of until I visited Denmark for the first time last year when Outwell, easily Denmark’s most recognisable family camping brand invited me to take a look at their now current range. Denmark’s main Island, Jutland is on the whole very flat, with great meadows, lush forests and beautiful lakes. Proper camping country! It is this environment, coupled with a a generous dash of Danish innovation (the same innovation that brought us Lego, Google Maps and the drum motor) where Outwell was born.

This multi-award winning camping equipment specialist provides everything you’ll need to have a superb time away with the family in the great outdoors from expertly designed tents to comfortable camp chairs, superb cotton sleeping bags, mats, tables, cool boxes, crockery sets, stoves… You name it, Outwell make it! It is difficult to find a large campsite in the UK during peak season that doesn’t feature at least a few of their excellent and expansive range.

On the year of Outwell’s 25th anniversary, It’s high time that we took a few moments to unfold just what makes this specialist in the perfect outdoor getaway’s tents so very special.

Outwell is widely recognised as being in the vanguard of innovation and has a much-envied reputation for first in the field designs and features that enrich a family camper’s outdoor life. While many features have now been adopted as standard by the outdoor industry, others are patented and can only be found on an Outwell tent. From this timeline below, you can get a great idea of Outwell’s innovative legacy.

These are just some of the many features which come included across the Outwell tent range which includes many different sizes, materials and construction methods such as poled and air tents.

Other features across the 2020 range include:

- The beautifully designed Outwell Panorama which enables campers to enjoy the close-to-nature experience they seek. Made up of a very wide entrance which creates an airy, light filled space that offers a shelter and comfort with unrestricted access to the outdoor world.

- A moveable front door which can be attached to very front of the tent or moved further in and zipped in place to create a lovely porch area.

- The Wing Lounge, available on several models such as the Airville 6sa is an extension on the left side of the tent which provides a quiet nook, extended dining area or play area for the kids, the layout choices are yours.

- Quick and Quiet inner doors allow near silent entry and exit from sleeping compartments in the still of night, not waking a soul. Magnetic strips integrated within the system cleverly always manage to close the door behind you.

+ Many more!

Poled Tents

When we talk pole tents, we think reliability. It’s a tried and tested method of tent building which has withstood the test of time and of course some pretty horrendous weather, most of us have a treasured memory of camping on torrential days with the family when we were young. Family camping has come a long way. Comfort, space and dependability is to be expected with a lot of today’s cutting edge tent ranges and Outwell's range of poled tents will certainly meet that line and then push it further.

Outwell's poled range is spread across 3 categories and has a lot of variance from smaller 2-person dome tents which go up in minutes to large family tunnel tents which will easily hold up to 7 happy campers in comfort with enough space for everybody to do as they please. These categories are named Encounter, Privilege and Premium.

The Encounter collection is a great place to start as these are the smallest tents in Outwell’s new range, though it does also include some tents with a great standing height. These are your perfect option for weekend getaways and short breaks. All tents in this range have a good, sturdy Outtex 3000mm Hydro static head flysheet which is fire retardant like all tents across Outwell’s range  and though sitting at entry level, are still chock full of quality and features that we’ve come to expect from any Outwell tent. With Dark Inners (for a longer lie-in) left in place, pitching these tents is a breeze – a big plus when moving on each day. This range sleeps 2-5 happy campers.

Looking for more space? That is where the Privilege collection comes in, sleeping 3-7 campers throughout. This collection also offers the premier bedroom with more generous floor space, cable entry points for bringing in electrics such as lights, darkened inner to reduce light entry to enhance sleep quality and plenty of storage pockets. The Outtex 4000mm HH flysheet adds a generous layer of protection. The new for 2020 Hook Track system for suspended lights and handy hanging points for clothing and towels makes these tents really adaptable. What’s more the pre-shaped Duratec FlexSystem fiberglass poles maximise internal space whilst remaining strong, light and reduce pack size greatly.

Looking for more luxury? That is where the Premium collection comes in. These tents sleep 4-7 happy campers comfortably and are jam-packed with nifty features. You can rely on the bombproof Outtex Pro 6000mm HH Flysheet around the outside of the tent. These tents come with the Outwell Ambassador Master Bedrooms with a full 230cm depth, generous standing space, cable entry points and darkened inners. On the Bedroom inner doors this range also benefits from the Quick and Quiet magnetic system new for 2020, magnetic strips sewn into the vertical seam of the inner doors allowing quick and quiet bedroom entry and exit without waking up the entire family, you also have a zip which goes over it for more secure closure when required.

Part of Outwell's Superior Air Collection, the Airville 6SA is a three-room tunnel tent with an additional, versatile wing lounge.

Air Tents

Outwell are known for innovation, it’s in their slogan and the very foundations on which the company was built. Air tents have come a long way over the last few summers. You’re getting very generous tents which are super quick and easy to pitch, have enough room for the kids to play while you finally get the peace you’ve been looking for all year on a much needed getaway into the outdoors.

Outwell’s new range really improves on many air tents we’ve seen and pitched last year. Their very clever list of new features going forward is certain to please and most are spread across their entire new Air range, consisting of 3 categories – Prime, Superior and Imperial.

Prime is their new entry level range. It’s a big range of tents all with a really solid 4000mm Hydrostatic Head flysheet ensuring protection from the heavens. The tents are filled with very cosy features including the new patented quick and quiet bedroom compartment doors, a super easy and satisfying magnetic door system made especially for leaving bedrooms quietly and easily in the night without waking the whole family. Once open all you need to do is let go and the Quick & Quiet doors will shut smoothly and satisfyingly behind you. This feature is available broadly across the entire air range. Outwell’s new Hydro Blue colourway gives these tents a cool, glossy look and Outwell’s Panoramic view doors offer a really nice open view outside. All tents in this category have “Dale” in the name.

If you’re looking for a more premium, durable tent then the Superior range is an excellent choice. The Outer Fly is Stronger and offers more protection with a Hydro Static Head of 6000mm. The bedrooms are larger, Outwell’s Ambassador master bedrooms offer 230cm of floor space and full standing height, they’re also darkened to keep you laying in longer. All doors on the tent are backed also with a mesh to keep a bit of privacy from Mother Nature’s little friends whilst letting air run comfortably through the tent. These tents have a really nice feel to them and will of course come with quick and quiet doors and the panoramic view entrance. Check out the Airville for its “Wing lounge,” Outwell’s Patented new feature. Simply put it is a really nice new space on the side of the tent, great for a camp sofa, table or play area without taking up to much of the tents main floor space. All tents in this category have “Ville” in the name.

For ultimate luxury, comfort and security guaranteed, you're looking at the Imperial range. All tents in this range are made using Outtex Airtech, a tough, quality polycotton with a high resistance to water during rain which creates an atmosphere where vapour can exit to eliminate condensation while controlling internal temperatures. These are really breathable, airy and comfortable tents. The gothic arch beam shape used within this range allows full standing height throughout the tent and solid strength is crosswind. The tents also feature Dark inners for easy rest, Zip-up curtains, Quick and quiet inner doors, front and rear storm webbings, big panoramic doors and streamlined Outwell style. Every tent within this range has “Lake” in the name.
