The Arc'Teryx Cerium is a range of Goose Down Insulated Jackets, Vests and Hooded Jackets.
The Cerium range is designed to be used as technical warm outer layers in cold dry conditions or a mid layer in cold wet conditions. The priority of these garments is to have a very high warmth to weight ratio, they achieve this by having a high down fill power and Arcteryx’s unique Down Composite Mapping.
The body mapping system that ArcTeryx uses places larger amounts of down in high heat loss areas. This combines with their 3D shaping which leaves every baffle on the jacket, especially the arms, a different size and shape to the one next to it to allow the jacket to have the Arcteryx Premium fit.
It also places synthetic Coreloft insulation in areas that are likely to get wet or be compressed, this includes the shoulders, under arms and cuffs. This keeps the jacket very warm for its low weight and small pack size, for example the most popular hooded jacket in this range.
The Cerium LT, weighs 305g and packs down to the size of a litre bottle, which is incredible for a jacket this warm.
The range keeps to Arcteryx’s simplistic and streamline design which makes them practical to use and comfortable to wear.
The garments are part of the essential range, because of this they have a trim fit so that it can be used as part of a layering system. The jackets come out a little shorter than others of similar warmth. This is so they can be used with a harness or heavy rucksack.
This, combined with the Arato outer fabric means it is a little more durable than its competitors and can be used for more activities. While the outer fabric is water resistant the down in this range of products does not have a hydrophobic coating to help it repel water. When using this jacket, I will always bring a waterproof as well.
Due to the amazing weight and warmth of the garments in this range I find that I take them on most activities I do, like hiking, climbing and day trips out. The small pack size really does help as you can always find space for it. Some people find that due to the extremely lightweight materials used and the shorter length that this jacket does not work as an everyday jacket. From all the research I have carried out and the different products I have tried, I have found that the Cerium LT Hoody is one of the best Down Jackets on the market, and should be a must have for all keen outdoor enthusiasts.
