The Tentipi Safir 9 CP is the ideal family or group choice when you need the comfort and space to seat or sleep large groups.

The Safir is at the top of Tentipi's range and offers an excellent combination of design and materials to create a perfect shelter for year round use.

The Safir has been strengthened and refined to withstand expedition use. This is not to say they cannot be used for less demanding conditions, they are equally at home on family adventures.

The two piece ventilator cap with mosquito netting is infinitely adjustable on the inside of the tent for airflow and letting smoke out, should you choose to have a fire in the tent.

There is also mosquito netting to the doorway and three base vents, plus a hardened alloy centre pole for increased strength in adverse conditions.

Suitable for use with a heat source inside the tent  - An open fire can be used most effectively as the Safir has three lower vents to help the smoke draw and features a zipped mosquito net door.

The Safir is also suitable for use with the Eldfell stoves.

The flysheet skirts are made from Tentipi's Cotpolmex P cotton/polyester fabrics providing a comfortable environment in hot or cold weather.  Highly breathable and durable with a water repellent treatment, the fabric feels just like canvas.

In our experience the fabric works well enough without the need for an inner tent, as condensation is less of an issue.

The aluminium alloy centre pole provides increased strength in adverse conditions.

Choose the optional Comfort groundsheet or the Comfort inner tent to complete the picture and provide protection from the ground.

Tentipi Cotpolmex fabrics...

Tentipi uses two similar cotton/polyester fabrics on their tents, Cotpolmex C or Cotpolmex P    Both provide a comfortable environment in hot or cold weather, are highly breathable, durable, and have water repellent treatment.  The fabrics feel just like canvas, and in our experience work well enough without the need for an inner tent (as condenstaion is less of an issue).

Cotpolmex C Is used in the Onyx and Zirkon CP models, offering comfort and quality at fantastic prices.

Cotpolmex P Is used in our Safir CP and is ideal for extreme conditions,  Cotpolmex P is possibly the finest cotton/polyester flysheet currently available.

5 stars Tentipi Safir 9 CP Written by Mr C. Seaward

We brought this Tipi in April from Taunton Leisure and wanted to use the Tipi several times before reviewing it. It is an expensive tent but as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. We are extremely impressed with the quality of the tent and expect it to last for years, therefore making the initial outlay good value. The last camping trip was wet and windy. The Tipi stood up to the elements well without using the guy ropes. The two other tents that were with us leaked! The biggest selling point is that the Tipi is very easy to erect and take down. This allows you to start your holiday straight away with a lot less stress involved than a standard tent. This also allows you to go away for shorter camping trips. The Tipi also packs down into a large holdall style bag which is great for storage / transport. You do have to accept that you will be doing more basic camping but that was again a massive attraction to us. We have a large family tent which was getting full of camping wardrobes etc etc. It was taking us hours to set up and we felt that we had built a canvas home. Getting the Tipi we have returned to the basics of camping and love it. We believe it enhance the camping experience for kids, as they like the the togetherness of it. Just one big room. We are a family of 4 and find the Safir 9 is plenty big enough for us. I was also very impressed with the staff at Taunton Leisure. They were very helpful when we started to look at the Tipi. They did not have a Safir 9 erected when we went to the show ground, but they got the demo Tipi out and erected it for us to have a look at, without any complaints. Fantastic service.

4 stars Tentipi Safir 9 Written by Allan

A well made spacious item but with some drawbacks which need some design attention. Opening the door flap is a fiddle and I attached loops to make it easier to reach the zip from both inside and outside. The door flap also needs a central D ring to stop it flapping in a strong wind. The skirt operates best when spread outwards. if tucked in it invites the wind underneath and the ground sheet lifts.

An idea of what wind speed the central pole will take before lashings are required would be helpful. The pole bent alarmingly in a force 9, so much so I asked Taunton Leisure top replace it, which they did. The wind also makes it a noisy tent. The upper storm guys are very difficult to reach and let down, due to their height and angle of the tent, once the tent is erected, so think about setting them out at the start. Also the storm guys for the cap are difficult to reach for the same reason and I can see no solution to that. Unless I am mistaken the 'comfort' ground sheet would look so much better with the green side up rather than the black. Also it seems to attract quite a bit of condensation under mats or items like bags, sat on it for any lenght of time. Is this wicking and have I got the groundsheet the wrong way up?

A double zip, as on the door flap, would be so much better for the mosquito net on the door. The net when closed, with the main flap open helps with the structural integrity of the tent and seems to keep it warm on cool evenings. Using the double ended zip from the top downwards when it is wet to slide in and out through a slitted flap is to invite serious leakage.

The plus side is it is very spacious and has a Tardis like quality, especially if the skirt is extended outwards. The ability to stand and dress rather than wriggle is luxury. It takes two adults and two dogs easily. Also used with three adults and two children with plenty of room to spare. The cap and vents cool the tent very quickly. Using two dutch ovens inside on a windy day was no problem. Mats on the ground sheet make it much more comfy.

The colour of the material gives a very pleasing to the interior. The pole holders are very useful for lanterns and hanging clothes, except when a pole lashing is used in very windy weather. All in all well worth the investment, however it does get a bit cool in mid-September at night.

Have a Heatpal but have yet to use it Am examining the potential of the inner tent and the Eldfell stove, and need to try out the Heatpal for real and/or a firebox.

Our reply

Thanks for the valuable feedback, It is great that your tent has been used in some challenging conditions and I think you were a little unlucky with the pole as we rarely get issues. Force 9 winds would have destroyed most tents of this size and in my experience you have to adapt a little with the conditions where doors and floor skirts are concerned. The correct way up for the floor is with the zip flaps down to the ground to help prevent moisture coming through. I use a tent carpet on top of the floor from one of the family tents cut and trimmed to size with slits in the same place as the floor zips. This makes the tent really cosy!

I would be keen to get your feedback on the use of use with the Heatpal and other heat and cooking sources inside the tent.

Thanks again for writing a great report

Is there a footprint available for the Safir 9 or is this not needed.

Yes. There is the Tentipi Comfort Floor 9 (Code: 12171) which is ideally suitable for the Safir 9 CP and/or any 9 person Tentipi tent.

I have a 2009 model Safir 9. Can the attachment for the proposed 2012 porch/apse be retro-fitted? If so how much and how long to do and who would do it? Yours Allan T

Thanks for your question.  We have been looking into this for you and found as much information as possible.  We will be stocking the porches for the Tentipi,  we do not know what they look like yet because we have not had them delivered.

The 9 porch will cost £405.  It will also come as we have been told with a retro kit so your able to attach them to your Tipi.  As soon as they come in we will be getting one out and seeing how they attach to this years model with the porch attachment already on and an older model like yours.  We will be able to say then exactly how they will attach.

Unfortunately we do not have a fixed date of arrival.  We are due a delivery at the end of February, however this date can change.

Sorry for not being more specific.  If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards
