The Isle of Skye is arguably the finest of the many and varied islands lying off
the western seaboard of Scotland. The scrambles and climbs described in this new
guide are largely the work of the pioneers who explored the Cuillin a century or
more ago. But many of these have been omitted, or only poorly described, in
climbing guides since the 1950s. Consequently, the details of many worthwhile
outings were in danger of being lost.
This guide has built on the
previous SMC scramblers' guide to Skye (Black Cuillin Ridge, Shirley Bull, 1980)
by collating a more comprehensive list of scrambles, and including details of
some lower grade rock climbs. The author has repeated all in the last few years.
There are also notes on the history, weather, flora, fauna, and geology.
