Nomad is a Dutch company producing tents with a difference to many of the mass-market brands with a clear focus on the quality of materials used at the premium end of the market. Indeed if you were to compare the life span of a Nomad tent in Technical Cotton compared to a premium polyester tent it will last around 4 times longer making it a sound investment for the years to come.

The Air Tent collection

The success of this range is a combination of the Technical Cotton Air fabric for the outer flysheet, DAC lightweight alloy poles and a more simplistic approach to design. Despite the use of cotton these tents will pack away much smaller and lighter than similar designs making them easier to pack and transport. Walk into to any of this collection and you will experience the smell of canvas and PVC which may just rekindle thoughts from earlier camping holidays with our parents.

Technical Cotton

After years of research and testing, Nomad have opted for Technical Cotton (65% polyester, 35% cotton) as the main fabric for the range of Family Travel tents. This choice typifies Nomad's approach to equipment design: by combining the best attributes of natural materials and modern technology, it really is possible to have the best of both worlds.

Using Technical Cotton as the base fabric, they have developed Non-Coated (Air) fabric.

  • 100% waterproof: the fabric keeps rain out while allowing the inner tent to breathe.
  • Durable: the long-lasting fabric resists UV radiation damage caused by sunlight.
  • Comfortable: the tents are high and spacious, and have a low weight and small packed volume.
  • A modern day blend on traditional fabrics it feels and smells just like cotton canvas this fabric is 65% polyester and 35%cotton. The fabric does not have a coating making it highly breathable yet in our experience has never leaked and is ideal for our temperate climate. The unique properties of this fabric provide excellent climate control being cool in the heat of the sun and warm on cooler days.
  • The fabric surface expands when wet and keeps the water out, a light water repellent coating to the outer ensures that the water beads away.
  • Drying time is slightly longer than many synthetic tents but in our experience is still quick to dry and rarely an issue. This fabric is also very resistant to the sun’s rays making UV degradation less of an issue over polyester fabrics

Dac poles

DAC is widely regarded as the top brand in aluminium poles. They offer a maximum strength-to-weight ratio, are long lasting, and are made to withstand heavy snow loads or strong winds. used extensively in Nomad tents

  • The use of DAC alloy poles make these tents very easy to set up and extremely stable in adverse weather conditions. The poles play a key part in the Nomad tents exceptional stability and are fundamental to keeping the weight and packed size to a minimum.

5 stars Nomad Bantu Written by EB
The tent is not cheap. It is heavy, takes time to put up (even with 2) and a lot of time to dry, if taking down wet, but this is typical for any high quality, large poly-cotton tent. On the plus side - plenty of space, great features, well made, tough ground sheet, withstands wind and rain well, comfy to sleep in. Buy it and get the porch for added space when sitting out. You will love it and enjoy using it for years to come if well cared for. Best buy a few stronger pegs to replace those that come with it as if hammering into dry/ tough ground they will bend over time and need gradually to be replaced. I use Delta (Ground Anchor) Pegs which are great for securing any tent firmly to the ground.

Were considering buying this tent but when we had a look at it at Sanders Garden Centre, there appeared to be a gap between the flysheet and groundsheet on the side door. Is this right as the details say a fully enclosed interior or is there some way of closing this gap. Couldn't see any at the time.

Thanks for your question, the floor can be attached to the door by velcro patches, this allows the floor to be put down flat when going in and out.
