Tech Wash from Nikwax is made specifically to clean breathable, waterproof garments and equipment without damaging the membranes or water-repellency treatments.

Dirt will attract water and reduce the beading-up of droplets on the fabric's surface. Wash the garment in Nikwax Tech Wash non-detergent soap to revitalise breathability and water-repellency.

Detergents can leave water-attractive residues that will not rinse out. They also contain agents that can wash away water-repellent treatments. Never use liquid detergents or fabric softeners on your waterproof clothing.

Safe for use on Gore-Tex, Sympatex, Entrant, Ultrex, TriplePoint and all liner and shell fabrics.

Suitable for use on waterproof clothing, tents, awnings, marquees, rucsacs, camera bags, etc.

My flysheet has sewn-in metal hooks, so not suitable for washing the normal way. Would this product be effective used to sponge the flysheet on the tent poles (to tension) and then rinsed off with a hose? Any better ideas?

Thanks for your question, Tech Wash is a cleaner designed for waterproof fabrics, jackets etc and doesn't strip away any coatings or treatments so it could be suitable for a flysheet. I'd suggest testing on a small inconspicuous area to see how it cleans / rinses off. Depending on the age and condition of the flysheet once it's been cleaned I would suggest a reproofing with this product http://www.tauntonleisure.com/nikwax-tent-amp-gear-proof-1l/p3290 to restore / improve the water repellency.
