Camping Magazine Nomad Dogon 3 Air Tent Review

Camping Magazine Nomad Dogon 3 Air Tent Review

TORRENTIAL RAIN has played a
big part in tent tests this year and
our time with the Nomad Dogon 3
Air proved no exception. However,
the tunnel design quickly went up
to provide a secure shelter while
we zipped in the groundsheet
and suspended the inner. But not
before we zipped on the optional
£140 canopy, pictured with our
test unit here. This proved vital to
our comfort. Besides protecting
the door from the rain it provided
somewhere to shed waterproofs
before entering the tent.

The polycotton fabric used in the
outer swells to effectively block out
water. Being breathable, it creates a
comfortable climate in which to sit
out the rain, or heat of the sun.

Nomad has a superb eye for
design. Take the groundsheet – this
has a lighter weight panel that slips
under the inner tent where wear
and tear is at a minimum. How’s
that for saving weight? And the back
of the outer is made from a darker
material so sleepy campers aren’t
woken by the early morning sun.

The front door is another neat
feature. Although it has the normal
zip arrangement that allows it to
be rolled up, guyed and poled out
etc, it also sports a central zip that
provides even more door options.

If that is not enough, the Dogon
also has two side doors, both with
windows and backed by a mesh
door to keep out the bugs. The tent
has plenty of windows, but many of
these are a tad special. The upper
portion is mesh, the lower vinyl.
The internal curtain is attached on
the dividing seam. When the upper
curtain is zipped over the mesh, it
guides rain back out to where it can
run down the outside of the vinyl.

There are two cable ports at the
side and one at the back – matched
by ports in the inner tent.. The
inner has a large rear mesh vent
mirroring that in the outer. This
can be closed by a zip-up flap. Two
small poles used inside at the back
of the outer maintain its shape.
Camping says The Dogon’s huge
living area proved a cosy haven in
which to sit out the bad weather

and will, undoubtedly, provide a cool retreat from the sun. You cannot question the material and build quality and if you are a camping couple looking for a superlative touring tent then this could be for you.

Don’t let the price tag put you
off – these tents should last the
course of time and easily repay
your investment with dividends.
Supplier Taunton Leisure also
offers some tasty discounts. CG
