my old HMS screwgate was looking a little worn so I decided to change it. The Black Diamond Gridlock Screwgate represents practical evolution of an existing product. The small 'hook' prevents any cross-loading, allowing the belayer to spend a little more time concentrating on the climber. It does take a few goes to get used to attaching to your harness - one way makes it tricky to pass the hook over your belay loop and I suspect could add to wear-and-tear over time. Overall though, it is light, safe and practical - what more could you ask for? 8th Apr, 2011
